Tapsi ni Vivian: our friendly neighborhood tapsilog restaurant

I initially thought that Tapsi ni Vivian is a fairly new entrant in the restaurant scene. However, I recently found out that Tapsi ni Vivian had already been around for decades so that came as a surprise to me when I found that out.

Tapsi ni Vivian: our friendly neighborhood tapsilog restaurant

I first knew of Tapsi ni Vivian when they opened a branch in the Novaliches-Fairview area. It was quite an eye-catcher with the overall Filipino theme of its exteriors and the yellow signage. We first tried eating here in 2017 – I remember it was a merienda of lomi soup and tokwa’t baboy if my recollection is correct. We got a seat outside in the garden. It was quite a good meal so we wanted to return and try their rice dishes.

    Ambiance

The opportunity to return to Tapsi ni Vivian presented itself around the middle of this year. We just came from Miguel’s check up and it was already was past lunchtime. Having no time to cook food, we decided to go to Tapsi ni Vivian.

The interiors are quite spacious but we know that it can get really crowded during peak hours. Thankfully, the wave of diners was already waning down by the time we got there. Tapsi ni Vivian had a carinderia feel although the seats are much more comfortable. It was also good that there were only a few people that time because the restaurant was not air-conditioned so it can get hot and humid inside, so be warned. Nevertheless, it was a friendly and welcoming restaurant that does not intimidate.

    Food at Tapsi ni Vivian

At Tapsi ni Vivian, diners order their food by falling in line at the counter where customers will be greeted by large photos of silog dishes that one can think of. However, the most popular of which is tapsilog – tapa (marinated beef), sinangag (fried garlic rice), and itlog (fried egg). Other than this, other popular choices are the bangsilog (bangus, sinangag, itlog), longsilog (longganisa, sinangag, itlog), adsilog (adobo, sinangag, itlog), and liemposilog (liempo or pork belly, sinangag, itlog), just to name a few. For an even heartier meal, order a big bowl of steaming hot bulalo.

The tapsilog here is really good. The fried marinated beef bits have a slightly sweet sauce that goes really well with the salty fried egg and garlic rice. It’s hard to resist eating this delicious treat. This is one breakfast meal that I will not grow tired of ordering.

Meanwhile, my mother-in-law ordered hipsilog (crispy shrimp, sinangag, itlog) and she said that it was delicious and completely enjoyed it.

All in all, it has consistently been an awesome dining experience at Tapsi ni Vivian.

    Price and verdict

Aside from the food, one of the main draws of Tapsi ni Vivian is, of course, the price. Food price ranges from around Php115 to Php150. I think that’s already fair considering the quality of the food as well as the overall appeal of the restaurant. Trust Tapsi ni Vivian to satisfy your silog cravings at any time during the day. This is one restaurant that is worth going back to, especially if they are just around the neighborhood.
