Calamansi juice is extremely healthy but if you want to find out more about its specific benefits, read this article.
Calamansi juice is not just a refreshing drink but is also a nutritious
thirst-quencher. This little round citrus fruit may well be considered as a
superfood because of its many amazing health benefits. Calamansi is
relatively affordable, readily available in supermarkets, and easy to
prepare. And if you want your own calamansi shrub, you can plant your own in
your backyard or even in a pot because it’s not really a sensitive or hard-to-grow crop.
What is calamansi?
  Calamansi or
citrus microcarpa is also known as lemonsito in other parts of the Philippines and
calamondin, Philippine lemon, or Philippine lime to the rest of the
  world.

This citrus fruit is widely used in the Philippines as well as around
Southeast Asia, most notably in food and beverages. Aside from that, calamansi
is used commercially in household cleaning products and personal bath
  products.
The calamansi shrub grows up to six meters but based on my experience, they
don’t really grow that tall when planted in pots or even in the backyard.
The characteristics of calamansi
The calamansi fruit is highly aromatic and is very sour when unripe but
develops a slightly sweet flavor when ripe. This small fruit is packed with
flavors; that’s why Chef Anna Olson is also a
  fan of calamansi.
It adds a lot of zesty flavors to dishes, when added either directly or in
marinades. Calamansi zest can be added to leche flan while calamansi leaves
can be added to biko (Filipino sweet rice cake) for a delicious tangy
  scent.
Calamansi is commonly squeezed onto noodle dishes like pancit (bihon guisado, palabok, malabon, miki,
etc.), mami and lomi, and arroz caldo. It is also
used in dipping sauces for fried and grilled fish, grilled pork, and chicken.
Calamansi can be used in practically any rich and savory dish to balance the
  flavors.
During the dry season in the Philippines, we love to make calamansi juice
because of its refreshing and invigorating flavors. We sweeten it with a
little honey for a really healthy drink.
The health benefits of calamansi
We all know that calamansi, being a citrus fruit, has health advantages. But
what specific benefits does calamansi really bring to the body? Here they are:
1. Boosts immunity
Calamansi has high Vitamin C content as well as other nutrients like
potassium, calcium, and Vitamin A. Vitamin C is a well-known nutrient in
boosting the body’s immune system to help it fight diseases, which is what we
  all need these days.
2. Helps retain skin and muscle health
Calamansi’s Vitamin C content is essential in helping the body produce
collagen, a necessary component to help bind tissues in the body together.
Collagen is also vital in keeping the skin and muscles healthy and supple.
3. Has anti-inflammatory properties
  The rind of calamansi contains
tannins, substances that are known for their anti-inflammatory properties.
Anti-inflammatory agents help in alleviating swelling due to cellular injury
or damage. Aside from that, tannins also aid in proper blood clotting.
4. Helps the body eliminate mucus
The Vitamin C as well as high acidic content of calamansi, works well in
helping the body eliminate phlegm from the respiratory system.
5. Reduces bad cholesterol and glucose levels
Calamansi, as well as other citrus fruits, have been reported to help reduce
bad cholesterol as well as glucose levels in the body.
6. Regulates blood pressure
The tannins in calamansi also provide advantages in the regulation of blood
  pressure.
7. Flushes out toxins
The high Vitamin C and nutrient content of Vitamin C also work wonders in
helping the body flush out harmful toxins.
8. Smoothens the skin
Calamansi has high citric acid content that can help eliminate rough and dark
skin to reveal smooth and white skin. As such, calamansi juice is widely used by Filipinos as an affordable skin-bleaching agent for underarms, elbows, and
knees. Some Filipinos also apply it directly to pimples to help dry these out.
This beauty benefit of calamansi is the reason why its extracts are also added
  to soaps and lotions.
How to make a simple yet delicious calamansi juice
Making calamansi is really just a straightforward process. The amount of
calamansi fruits that you will need will depend on the quantity of juice that
you would like to prepare. We have a calamansi shrub in our backyard; that’s
why the supply is not a problem for us.
For a pitcher of calamansi juice, these are the ingredients that I recommend:
- 50 pieces of calamansi
- Honey or brown sugar as sweetener
- Around a liter of cold water
For the kitchen utensils, you will need a knife, chopping board, spoon, and
  pitcher.
Slice the calamansi and squeeze out the juice into the pitcher. Add cold
water, sweeten with honey or brown sugar, and enjoy it. You can put it in the
refrigerator if you want it colder or if you will consume it at a later time.
