Balabag Wetland Park in Boracay offers a scenic lagoon, lush greenery, and a peaceful escape near D'Mall for strolls, biking, and local hangouts.
When Boracay was temporarily closed down to tourists around 2018, one of the new sights or attractions that greeted travelers when the island was finally reopened was the Balabag Wetland Park. Honestly, it was only during our recent trip to Boracay that I realized that the area has already been converted into a park where people can stroll leisurely or sit down to enjoy the island breeze.

The Balabag Wetland Park at night |
I remember a “lake” or body of water as you approach D’Mall (that was way back in 2017, our last trip to Boracay before having kids). I thought that it was a sewage or water filtration facility, and also vaguely remember the area to be a garbage dump (or a place where garbage bags were temporarily placed for collection).
I learned later on that that “lake” or that body of water and its immediate vicinity was called Wetland No. 4, and the plan was to convert it to an urban park with a boardwalk, trees, and plants endemic to Boracay.
It can be quite uncomfortable to go here during the daytime, when the sun is at its peak. However, by mid to late afternoon, the Balabag Wetland Park becomes sort of a refuge for most locals, especially the young ones, who want a place to relax after school (without having to pay for anything, of course).
You can enjoy the scenic lagoon, ride a bike around the park, or even ride a skateboard. And yes, there is lush vegetation around the lake, which is a great feature for plant lovers. At night, it comes alive when the “I Heart Boracay” sign is lighted. I think this is a great feature or a good addition to the attractions in Boracay. It can also be a good venue for small concerts or events (if they have not yet utilized this). Miguel and I walked over to the park after our visit to D’Mall and while we were waiting for our companions to finish grocery shopping. It was quite peaceful and provided a good respite from the busy buzz of D’Mall.
Yeah, the Balabag Wetland Park is one “attraction” that you can check in Boracay if you have not yet done so.
