Our Family Experience at Horizon Club in EDSA Shangri-La Hotel

Family staycation at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel with pool fun, Horizon Club delights, and endless food indulgence; our perfect weekend escape.

We had a family staycation at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel last weekend, and it was the perfect escape to unwind after several months. We just realized that our last family adventure was last May in Shangri-La Boracay. Needless to say, the last few weeks leading up to our staycation had Rafa asking us endless questions about whether it was time to go to EDSA Shangri-La.

This staycation is no different from our previous staycations. The children couldn’t get enough of the swimming pool while I took advantage of the comfortable bed (although, surprisingly, I had a hard time sleeping because of a lot of things going on in my head).

Of course, we accompanied the children in the pool while they swam. I think it’s a universal thing among kids that they wouldn’t care about anything else in the world if there is a swimming pool (or any body of water).

What’s different this time, though, is that we took advantage and tried the Horizon Club. We had afternoon cocktails, in which we enjoyed the all-you-can-eat food that was mostly finger food like salad, fried calamari, pork barbecue, beef rendang, cold cuts, cheese, fruits, cakes, pastries, coffee, fruit juices, and beer (San Miguel beer products like Cerveza Negra, Super Dry, Premium, and Pale).

I helped myself to several servings of salad, calamari, cold cuts, cheese, and tres leches cake (I like Shangri-La’s tres leches cake and also the vanilla pudding). For drinks, I had a bottle of beer and also a cup of coffee. We were full and satisfied from our afternoon cocktails, so we didn’t have dinner anymore.

Our breakfast was still at the Horizon Club. It was breakfast buffet, and we like that the choices weren’t too overwhelming. There was bacon (it was not crispy but you can request to fry it to a crisp), sausage, salad, soup, cold cuts, fruit smoothies, corned beef hash, fresh fruit juices, pastries and butter, coffee, as well as cereal and milk.

I realized later on that we spent the weekend eating (almost) non-stop haha. I’m not complaining though because, I think, this is the first time that we did this at EDSA Shangri-La – eat non-stop, that is. How I just wished that our vacation was longer (and that we had more budget). Anyway, we’re already looking forward to our next EDSA Shangri-La staycation with our family.
