D’ Original Pares Review: Tastebuds Reignited

In the early 2000s, I fell in love with the taste of pares, and I would regularly eat it whenever there was a chance to do so. At that time, my office was in Retiro, which was near two popular restaurants offering pares. However, since I was then eating pares too often, my taste buds quickly grew weary of it.

I soon transferred to a new work location and forgot about pares until about a few years ago when we decided to eat at D’ Original Pares along Commonwealth Avenue. I was familiar with this restaurant because I used to see a lot of people eating at their original, much bigger location. For a time, I thought they had closed, which was why I was surprised to discover that they had just transferred to a new location.

Anyway, when I saw their menu, their pares looked tempting, I figured I hadn’t had pares for a long time, after all, and I was craving the taste a bit. I thought D’ Original Pares was worth trying because it’s been years since I had a bowl of pares. With that, I ordered it plus a bowl of mami and a plate of sisig.

I liked D’ Original Pares’ version of pares because it wasn’t overly sweet, it had the right balance of sweetness, saltiness, and the flavor of star anise. It went well with garlic rice and a bowl of warm soup. It was like my taste for pares was reignited, thanks to D’ Original Pares.

And just recently, I discovered that there was a D’ Original Pares branch near our place, so we can always have food delivered via GrabFood whenever we crave it.
