I couldn’t get enough of Ted’s Oldtimer Lapaz Batchoy

I’ve always been a noodle soup lover. From as far back as I can remember, my father and I would order mami and lomi at our favorite FM Bakery whenever we were in Cabanatuan City. I eventually discovered ramen, which I also dearly love, but another local noodle soup dish that I’m also fond of eating is batchoy. I’m not particularly sure when I began to love batchoy, but it was fairly recent, around the time when I was already working. Not only that, there are not too many restaurants offering good batchoy, but I’m thankful because there is a Ted’s Oldtimer Lapaz Batchoy near our place (actually, it’s at the foodcourt of SM City Fairview).

What is batchoy, anyway?

According to Wikipedia, batchoy is a Filipino noodle dish that is made of pork innards (liver & intestines), chicken stock, meat slices (pork or beef), egg noodles, egg, leeks, and topped with crushed chicharon. Batchoy traces its roots in La Paz, Iloilo.

But do you know that there is also a variant called Tagalog batchoy? It’s made of pork pieces, liver, pork blood, and misua noodles cooked in aromatics, and topped with chili leaves and green chili. I also love Tagalog batchoy, but this seems rarer to find.

There was a time when I would always order a big bowl of Super Special batchoy at Ted’s Oldtimer Lapaz Batchoy. It had everything, making it a hearty dish of delicious egg noodles, flavorful soup, and delicious toppings. Yes, I’d order it each time we were at SM City Fairview. At times, when an intense craving hits, I’d have Ted’s Oldtimer Lapaz Batchoy delivered via GrabFood.

How do I enjoy my batchoy? Oftentimes, I’d just enjoy it on its own. At times, I’d buy four pieces of putong puti to go with it. I like the combination of the slightly sweet putong puti and the savory soup. Sometimes, I’d still order batchoy even if I’ve already bought a rice meal. Talk about a heavy meal.

What else can you order at Ted’s Oldtimer Lapaz Batchoy?

Would you believe that Ted’s Oldtimer Lapaz Batchoy’s menu is quite diverse? They have all-day breakfast, batchoy variants (Oldtimer Favorites, Oldtimer Originals, and Original Beef Batchoy), Pancit Molo, Special Lomi Batchoy, Bihon Guisado, Sotanghon Guisado, Canton Guisado, and Namit meals (Chicken, Liempo, Sisig, & Bangus).

How about you? Are you also fond of eating noodle dishes? Do you also like to eat batchoy?
