Rafa’s First Inter-School Dance Presentation

Last month, we received the good news from Rafa’s school that he was chosen as one of the participants in a dance presentation. At first, I thought that it was only for his school activity but I later found out that the dance presentation was for an event organized by the Association of Private School Administrators (APSA) Quezon City called "Little Stars, Big Dreams. A Preschool Showcase of Talents," which meant that there were different schools that would participate. Of course, Mommy Khris and I were elated when we realized that it was somehow a big event in the sense that there were other student participants beyond Rafa’s school.

What even thrilled us was that it would be held in Mommy Khris’ high school Alma Mater – School of St. Anthony (SSA) Quezon City. I know SSA is one of the best schools in Quezon City and I was impressed when I saw the facilities myself during Rafa’s final rehearsal. Speaking of that final rehearsal, I got a little lost driving to SSA so we were a little late.

When we arrived at the Claret Auditorium, Rafa’s school was already on the stage but his teacher still asked him to join his classmates. It was a good thing that Rafa knew the steps by heart (their dance presentation was to the tune of the Disney song “Under The Sea”); I was impressed because, biases aside, he was the only one executing the steps with flair. I could understand why he was chosen by his teacher to participate. Rafa’s costume was an octopus.

When the day of the event came, we arrived at SSA for an early call time. Rafa’s school was the first participant so there was extra pressure for us to be at the venue on time. It was a good thing that Mommy Khris knew the way better than Google Maps so we had lots of time and we also got a good parking slot.

Anyway, totoo pala yung sinasabi nila na pag ang anak mo na ang participant, mas nervous ka pa. I was feeling a little nervous a few minutes before the program started. I was anxious because our seats were a bit far from the stage so I was already scanning the auditorium where I could stand and take a video of Rafa. It was a good thing that I was able to secure a good spot in front so when it was time for Rafa to dance, I was able to record it well.

Rafa’s dance presentation lasted only 5 minutes but our hearts were full of pride for our little boy. He looked cute wearing his octopus costume but what made us all the more proud was his wonderful execution of the dance steps.

All in all, it was an early morning spent well for our little family. We celebrated by having lunch at SM City Fairview.
