5 Top Things To Do In BGC With Kids

July 30, 2023

If you are looking for a nice weekend destination within Metro Manila for your kids, then you might want to consider BGC in Taguig City.

Anybody who's been to the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) would say that it's the epitome of modern metro living. BGC is like a slice of a first-world nation brought to the Philippines. Think of towering skyscrapers, contemporary living amenities, upscale shops, high-end restaurants, art spaces, and huge open spaces. But don't be misled though, despite the bustling modernity of BGC, it's a welcoming community for families and even pets.

    History of BGC

BGC is also known as Fort Andres Bonifacio (formerly Fort William McKinley) and is currently the site of the headquarters of the Philippine Army. In 1995, the concept of creating Bonifacio Global City, an integrated residential, commercial, and leisure zone came to fruition. Since then, BGC has been actively developed into one of the most contemporary business districts in Metro Manila.

    What to do in BGC

During weekdays, BGC is abuzz with employees going to their respective offices. However, on weekends (and even after work hours during weekdays), BGC relaxes and becomes a favorite venue for families who want to take it slow and have a great time. In fact, there are a lot of family and pet-friendly activities to do at BGC. If you would also like to take your kids to BGC but don't know where to start, here are some ideas for you.

    1. Ride the BGC bus

The primary mode of public transportation in BGC and it’s also a great way to see the beautiful buildings and establishments in this business district. Just a tip though, especially if you are taking your kids with you, try to avoid the rush hour and take the BGC bus at around 10:00 AM. Early mornings (before 8:00 AM) can get really hectic in the McKinley Exchange Corporate Center.

It’s a different story during weekends when the pace is a lot more leisurely.

    2. Explore parks and open spaces

What I personally like about BGC is its generosity when it comes to parks and open spaces. You may choose to take your kids and pets to any of the following parks:

    • North Triangle Park
    • Burgos Circle Park
    • Track 30th
    • My Street, High Street
    • Terra 28th
    • High Street South Park
    • NEO Park
    • De Jesus Oval
    • Kasalikasan Garden
    • Sundial Park
    • McKinley Parkway
    • BGC Greenway

    3. Visit any of the classy shopping malls in BGC

BGC is home to several shopping malls that offer a variety of activities and things to do for families. This is not an exhaustive list but some of the most recommended malls to visit in BGC are the following:

    • Uptown Mall
    • Market! Market!
    • One Bonifacio High Street by Ayala Malls
    • Venice Grand Canal

    4. Appreciate art in BGC

I’m not sure if many Filipinos know it but BGC is a haven for the arts – both visual arts and performing arts. Public art via murals and installations can be viewed in various locations around BGC. Furthermore, there are also plays that regularly run in the BGC Arts Center.

Exploring BGC with your kids is a good way to expose them to the arts.

    5. Hear Mass at the St. Michael the Archangel Parish

Yes, if ever you’re wondering, there is a church inside BGC and it’s the St. Michael the Archangel Parish located at 1928 10th Ave, Taguig. Mass schedule from Monday to Saturday is at 6:30 AM while on Sundays, it’s 7:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 4:00 PM, and 5:30 PM.

    Parking in BGC

If you are bringing your family car with you, here are some options where you can park:

    • Gallery Parkade
    • Three Parkade
    • High Street Parking
    • Fort Victoria
