Our first family staycation at Makati Shangri-La Hotel

For the longest time, our family would go to EDSA Shangri-La for a quick staycation if we wanted to have a relaxing weekend, away from the usual hustle and bustle. However, late in 2025, we decided to book a weekend stay at Makati Shangri-La Hotel. It was then that I realized that it would be our very first family staycation at Makati Shangri-La. Well, the hotel has been closed for quite a long time, and we were happy when it reopened because we have a lot of good memories at Makati Shang. This is where Mommy Khris and I first stayed after our wedding, but prior to that, we’ve been going to Makati Shangri-La for buffet dinners at Circles (long before we were married and had kids).

Anyway, Makati Shangri-La is the same grand and opulent hotel that I remember. Its signature majestic staircase would greet guests as they arrive in the high-ceilinged lobby. While we were checking it, since it was already a few weeks before Christmas, the lobby was adorned with bright and richly decorated Christmas trees. We had a good time taking photos, and the children, most especially, were super excited with the beautiful sights around them and the many mini-adventures that awaited them during our stay at Makati Shangri-La.

After countless photos, and when we had checked in, we decided to have lunch first at the lobby lounge, where we had rice meals like kare-kare, sisig, salmon sinigang, chicken and pork adobo, and pancit guisado. While we were eating, we also had a wonderful time listening to live Christmas music from a string trio. It made the experience all the more festive and unforgettable.

After our meal, we were ushered to our rooms, where we were greeted by the big, comfortable bed. Our room had the standard amenities like the widescreen TV, bottled water (they were now in glass bottles), an office table, complimentary food, and toiletries in the bathroom.

Of course, the kids were excited about the swimming pool. After settling in our rooms, the kids didn’t want to waste any time, we immediately changed so that the kids could already take a dip. It was also my first time trying the swimming pool, and I must say that I enjoyed the swimming pool more at EDSA Shangri-La. But it was still an enjoyable dip, nonetheless. As usual, it was so hard to convince the kids to get out of the pool; it was already very dark when we went up to our room.

The next day, since we were already due to check out in the afternoon, we maximized the day and went to the pool early. By lunchtime, we convinced the kids to go up for lunch, and by late afternoon, we had already checked out. All in all, it was a delightful first family staycation for us at Makati Shangri-La. We hope to have more wonderful family memories at Makati Shangri-La in the years to come.
