Nostalgic Eats: Tattoos Chips

Continuing with my “Nostalgic Eats” blog series, I’d like to write about one of the most beloved food products of ‘90s kids: Tattoos chips. Well, for most people I know who grew up in the ‘90s, at least.

Before I proceed, ano nga ba ang Tattoos Chips?

Nostalgic Eats: Tattoos Chips

Tattoos Chips are flavored corn chips manufactured by W.L. FOODS. According to its Facebook page, ang W.L. FOODS ay isa sa pinakamalalaking mga snack food manufacturers sa Pilipinas. Matagal na sila sa business and, in fact, they’ve been serving world-class snacks to the Filipino and overseas markets since 1986.

Going back to Tattoos Chips, I remember buying them as kids. First, they were in small plastic packs.

Fast forward to a few months ago, naghahanap ako ng chips or snacks na pwedeng dalhin sa office, when I saw Tattoos Chips sa grocery store. They were in those small packs, pero nagulat ako kasi may iba-ibang flavors na ito: barbecue, pizza, and spicy cheese. And then there was a variant also that came in tube forms (parang mga rings na malapad). Anyway, I thought it was a perfect opportunity to introduce (or reintroduce Tattoos Chips to my officemates. That’d be really fun, I reckon.

I bought about three or four bags of Tattos Chips. When I arrived at the office and put the bags on our common table, I was greeted by mixed reactions of excitement and surprise: it turned out, some of my officemates were still familiar with Tattoos Chips, while for some, it was their first time to know about this brand (mostly the younger millennials). Nevertheless, all of them were unanimously happy eating those salty and tasty goodies haha.

I also took a few packs to try the new Tattoos Chips flavors, but I would still mostly gravitate towards the barbecue flavor. Some of our colleagues from the other departments were also excited about the Tattoos Chips and asked for a few packs. We were happy to share, of course.

I continued to bring Tattoos Chips until my last few weeks with the company. I hope it also brought happiness to my former colleagues and a bit of child-like excitement.

Side kwento lang din pala, I read din sa Reddit na apparently may isang shop na ang pronunciation sa kanya ay "Tahos," which made me laugh a bit. Parang biglang yung isang truth na alam mo all your life na-shatter. Anyway, there were those who replied to that post who said that the manufacturer themselves said that it was pronounced as "Tattoos" (or for most Pinoys, it was "Tatos").

By the way, if you want to buy Tattoos Chip, you can buy it from W.L. Foods’ official Shopee store.
