Peter’s Butter Ball candy brings rich, buttery sweetness and 90s nostalgia; still a favorite treat across generations.
If ever there’s one candy brand that I really like, it’s Peter’s Butter Ball. I like the combination of the right sweetness and buttery (and somehow salty) flavor of Peter’s Butter Ball. I think among all candies that have a butter flavor, it’s Peter’s Butter Ball that has the richest and most satisfying buttery taste. Kumbaga, hindi sya tinipid sa lasa.
Anyway, for most individuals who grew up in the 1990s, they would instantly remember Peter’s Butter Ball as one of the candies they enjoyed chewing on while they were kids or teenagers. I don’t exactly remember when I first tasted Peter’s Butter Ball; I think I was an elementary school pupil at St. Paul School during that time, but it instantly became one of my favorites. I would buy several pieces of it throughout my high school days. If there are parties at school and there are candies for everyone, I’d target Peter’s Butter Ball.
During my college days, I don’t remember having much of Peter’s Butter Ball. In fact, even when I was already working, I seemed to have forgotten about it until Mommy Khris and I attended a wedding seminar at St. John Bosco Parish Church in Makati. There were pieces of Peter’s Butter Ball candies, among other candy brands. Of course, I had my eye on the butter-flavored sweets and helped myself to several pieces. I remember being sad as I took the last piece of Butter Ball candy from the plate.
And then fast forward to just a few months ago, during one of our grocery runs at Massway Hypermarket, I saw bags of Peter’s Butter Ball candy on the shelf. I immediately bought two bags and brought them to the office. Peter’s Butter Ball was an instant hint for my colleagues.
For many of my officemates who also grew up in the 90s, they were happy to be reacquainted with Peter’s Butter Ball once again. They said that the taste was nostalgic and the flavor has not changed one bit. However, the candies were a lot smaller and they remembered them to be bigger. I would guess that if Peter’s Butter Ball is given during Trick or Treat events, it’s the parents who would scramble to get it first.
For some of my younger officemates who tasted it for the first time they said that it was delicious. I felt content having introduced my favorite candy to them. It was an influence that mattered to me because it was a brand that I truly loved. It was like inducting them into the 90s or giving them a peek at the 90s.
