Date Your Wife: Manam Comfort Filipino (SM City Fairview)

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and two growing kids often leave Mommy Khris and me with very little opportunity to go out, much less time to eat in a restaurant, without having to rush. As such, when we have the chance to do so, we go out on a (quick) date because we know that it’s important to keep our relationship strong as well as allow us time to recover from the daily stress. We were grateful because a few weeks ago, we were able to eat again in one of our favorite restaurants, Manam Comfort Filipino in SM City Fairview. I’m sure many of you have heard about Manam Comfort Filipino restaurant and the way that it puts a twist on classic Filipino food.

Date Your Wife: Manam Comfort Filipino (SM City Fairview)

In terms of the ambiance, the Manam branch in SM City Fairview is a little on the harried side but that’s maybe just because of its small space. People come and go fast, out of courtesy to the next set of diners waiting outside the restaurant. Mommy Khris and I didn’t have to wait long though because it was just the two of us. There was already an available table after about five minutes of waiting.

We took our time to scan the menu and choose the food that we really like to eat. After all, it was a date and we haven’t done that in a long time. We ordered corned beef belly silog, tapsilog, crispy Pancit palabok, baby squid in olive oil and garlic, and ube sago shake.

The corned beef belly silog was mine. I wanted to try something new, that’s why I ordered it. It was delicious plus the meat was yielding. I wouldn’t consider it spectacular though. Mommy Khris’ tapsilog is still the clear winner. We really liked it dipped in Manam’s house vinegar blend. What we also noticed with our orders was how big the servings of the rice were. They were indeed made for breaking the fast.

Mommy Khris and I both loved the baby squid in olive oil and garlic. The flavors went together perfectly to create a flavorful oil-based sauce that went well with the rice. That’s not to mention how tender the baby squids were.

The crispy Pancit palabok is also our all-time favorite. The sauce was generous and thick and the seafood and garlic taste was definitely satisfying.

Finally, to cap our meal, we had ube sago shake. It was served in a tall glass so we just shared it with each other.

All in all, we had a wonderful time at Manam Comfort Filipino in SM City Fairview. The servers were friendly and attentive as well. As for the payment, we used the gift certificates that we won from a game organized by Why We Dine.
