Wordless Wednesday: St. Dominic Church In Macau

The St. Dominic Church is perhaps one of the most memorable places that we visited when we went to Macau in 2014. It was a small church but it stood out because it immediately caught our attention while we were exploring Largo do Senado at that time. St. Dominic Church definitely looked beautiful but there was something about it that would instantly draw passersby to it. Perhaps it was the serenity that the St. Dominic Church exuded or its diminutiveness that interestingly allowed it to stand out among the old buildings at Largo do Senado.

Wordless Wednesday: St. Dominic Church In Macau

Anyway, I guess it was the general aura of serenity that drew us to St. Dominic Church. Being a small church, there were only a handful of people praying inside. I guess the other reason is that praying is not really an activity that many travelers include in their itinerary.

Mommy Khris and I were already tired that time from all the walking that we did and St. Dominic Church seemed like the perfect venue to take a brief rest. Plus, I wanted to seek some moments of solitude because it suddenly dawned upon me that our getaway in Macau was ending in a day or two. Soon, we will be back to reality and spend hours with people we don’t like in the office.

Upon entering St. Dominic Church, we were surprised because the interiors looked cavernous. It wasn’t how we were expecting it to look especially because St. Dominic Church looked really small from the outside.

The altar looked magnificent; even from a distance, you can tell that the details are exquisite. The whole interiors of St. Dominic Church exude a vibe that is all too familiar to us; that can be expected because we have similar churches here in the Philippines.

In terms of the history of St. Dominic Church, it was established in 1587 by Spanish Dominican priests. It was built in the Baroque style and features a unique mixture of both European and Asian (Chinese-style roof tiles and door) elements.
