In fact, I started by experimenting with pandan leaves and brown sugar to make Pandan Garlic Butter Shrimp. It was garlicky and slightly sweet with a hint of the fragrance of pandan.

Then, while we were on vacation in Nueva Ecija, I decided to switch brown sugar with honey because, well, people say it’s healthier than regular sugar. We also didn’t have pandan at home so I just made it more garlicky and added a few spoonful of soy sauce.

I thought it was quite phenomenal so I’m sharing this Spicy Soy Honey Garlic Shrimp recipe with you.

What you’ll need to make Spicy Soy Honey Garlic Shrimps

This Spicy Soy Honey Garlic Shrimps recipe requires only simple ingredients. Except for the shrimps, most of these items are probably already in your pantry.

Here’s what you’ll need for this recipe:

    • One (1) kilo of shrimps
    • Two (2) heads of chopped garlic
    • Three (3) pieces of chopped chili
    • Two (2) tablespoons of soy sauce
    • One (1) tablespoon of cooking oil
    • Two (2) tablespoons of honey
    • Bottled toasted garlic (topping)
    • Salt & pepper
    • Calamansi leaves (optional)

Start by deveining and peeling the shrimps. Don’t forget to reserve the shells and heads for the broth. Make the shrimp broth by boiling the shells and heads in a cup of water. You can extract the flavor by squeezing the shrimp heads. Set the broth aside as soon as the water boils.

Next, heat the oil in a pan and cook the calamansi leaves. Add the garlic and chili and cook until brown. Add the shrimp broth and bring it to a boil.

Add soy sauce to the broth and season with salt and pepper. Add the honey. You can adjust the taste to your liking.

Add the shrimps and allow the sauce to reduce and thicken. Put the toasted garlic when the sauce has thickened.

Transfer the Spicy Soy Honey Garlic Shrimps to a serving bowl and top with toasted garlic right before serving it.
