Paseo Verde Beach Resort: An Affordable Family-Friendly Getaway

Paseo Verde Beach Resort is one of the more popular beach resorts in Laiya, Batangas. One of its strongest points is its affordability and family-friendly facilities.

Paseo Verde Beach Resort: an affordable family-friendly getaway

    A family getaway

After a brief and spontaneous planning session, we decided to have another family beach getaway in Paseo Verde Beach Resort in Barangay Laiya Aplaya, San Juan, Batangas. It was my sister-in-law who suggested the place which looked pristine in photos.

How to go to Paseo Verde Beach Resort

We hit the road early on a Saturday morning hoping to get to Laiya by 9:00 AM. However, while we were at C5, our van overheated twice so we had to park it in my sister-in-law's house and then cramped ourselves in the other vehicle.

We drove through SLEX and made an exit in Batangas. However, by the time we got to Sto. Rosario, Batangas, we could feel our engine wanting to give up on us, especially during the uphill ride.

We finally arrived in Laiya by 11:00 AM after a grueling and scorching five-hour drive and despite all the engine and mechanical failures along the way.

    First Impressions

The resort, with its trees and lush ornamental plants, looked very welcoming. It looked like we made a good decision after all. We immediately went to the reception area to settle our payment for the cottage which is called a small cavana.

The cavana is a regular bamboo cottage that can fit a maximum of 15 people. It had a big bamboo table in the middle where a group can comfortably have their meals or drinks. We brought food with us to save on cost. If you want to cook your own food, there are grills beside the cottages. You can bring with you fresh fish and meats for grilling.

Aside from cavanas, the resort also had casitas or overnight cottages of various sizes. Common comfort rooms are at the side of the resort near the entrance; a bit far from the cottages. The male restrooms only had around 8 cubicles so expect long queues. The same long queue can be seen in the female restrooms.

    Testing the waters

The beach itself is a short strip of sand lined with flags. The sand is also not white, as opposed to what you might see in photos on the internet.

Honestly, it was not at all that impressive, especially for those who have been to well-known beach destinations. The water was just fine, not an aquamarine blue and a bit dirty with debris and some floating plastic bags and cups. I hope the resort personnel would allocate time to regularly clear the water of rubbish.

However, if you are a big family like us who just wants to bring your small children to the beach or treat your loved ones to a simple beach getaway, then Paseo Verde Beach Resort is for you. It was not bad although it was also not spectacular.

Things to do at Paseo Verde Beach Resort

In terms of water activities, I don’t think the resort offers any although there were individuals offering banana boat rides and paragliding. However, when we inquired about the boat ride, we were a bit turned off because of the exorbitant fee.

There was, however, a volleyball court in the middle of the place. The ball is for rent on a per-hour basis. I also saw a karaoke for rent for those who want to sing a few songs.

    Our Verdict

All in all, the resort was just average. What I liked about it though is the numerous plants and trees inside the property. Walking inside the resort was comfortable because of the shade provided by the tall trees. However, there were a few only shower rooms so lines may form when many people are showering after a dip in the beach.

We had a good time at the beach

If you are embarking on a long journey from Metro Manila like us and expecting to see a breathtaking resort, then this is not the place for you. I would suggest going for other options, even if it meant shelling out a higher budget.

But if your objective is just to have a family beach outing and you are treating out a big group, without much regard for distance, then Paseo Verde Beach Resort is just fine. In the end, we were happy to have given the kids a fun time at the beach.

    Epilogue

By 5:00 in the afternoon, we decided to head back to Manila because of the long travel time. Since it was already early evening, the traffic was lighter as compared to how it was during the morning.

Paseo Verde Beach Resort is located at Pook Magalang, Laiya Aplaya, San Juan Batangas, San Juan, 4226 Batangas. The resort's contact number is (02) 998 5059.
