My despedida lunch at Las Flores BGC [Review]

During my last day at my previous company, my colleagues treated me to a despedida lunch at Las Flores in BGC. We’ve been here once to celebrate a teammate’s birthday, and I’d say that the food is indeed excellent. If you are someone who loves Spanish cuisine, then Las Flores will definitely satisfy your palate.

The ambiance at Las Flores

The ambiance is welcoming and laid-back, but with a touch of elegance. The warm glow from the pendant lights adds a touch of privacy because they’re not too bright; just enough to provide the right intensity of illumination for diners to see each other.

Upbeat music is continuously played in the background to further enliven the atmosphere. Las Flores is a nice place for a relaxing dinner or conversations with friends after work.

What we ordered

We ordered Croquetas de Jamon Iberico for our tapa, Salmon & Salmon for our pintxo, Spaghetti Aglio Olio (because my colleagues knew this is my favorite), Paella Setas, Costillar de Cerdo, and Dessert Platter.

The Croquetas de Jamon Iberico is a good starter for whetting the appetite. The savory Jamon Iberico paired well with the crunchy croquetas.

I also liked the Salmon & Salmon; the combination of marinated salmon with dill, salmon roe, truffle cream, honey, and air baguette was an explosion of flavors. The components complemented each other, and the truffle cream sort of provided a good base to bind all the flavors together.

I would always be a fan of Spaghetti Aglio Olio and, expectedly, the version from Las Flores did not disappoint. It’s made of the usual Garlic, olive oil, chili flakes, white wine, and parsley, but it was still so delicious. I couldn’t pinpoint it, but it had an umami aftertaste that I really appreciated.

My colleagues also knew that I wasn’t too fond of chicken, so they ordered the Paella Setas, made of mixed mushroom stew and truffle alioli. Despite the simplicity of this dish, the flavors are on point. The toasted rice at the bottom of the pan was my absolute favorite because all the flavors are there.

We also had the Castillar de Cerdo, or baby back ribs, in homemade BBQ sauce and sweet corn. It was also delicious, although I wouldn’t consider this my favorite because it tasted like any other good barbecued ribs.

To cap our good meal, we had a Dessert Platter, which had Churros con Chocolate, Vulcan de Chocolate, Tarta de Queso, and Torrija. I liked the churros as well as the cheese tart. The churros with its chocolate dip, of course, was pleasing to the palate, while the cheese tart, well, I say you can’t go wrong with cheese.

Epilogue

All in all, Las Flores comes highly recommended if you are looking for a good restaurant that serves Spanish cuisine. The food is excellent, and the ambiance is top-notch (it goes without saying that the service is also commendable). We had a good despedida lunch at Las Flores, and I will be forever grateful to my colleagues-turned-friends for the wonderful treat.
