My National Bookstore Book Haul

December 20, 2025

A nostalgic visit to National Bookstore led to a joyful book haul: spy thrillers, kids’ tales, and comic gems rediscovered on sale.

I couldn’t recall the last time when I had been inside a bookstore. As such, when Mommy Khris and I went to National Bookstore for an errand, I immediately told her that I would check out the books. I saw a corner where there were boxes containing stacks of books and it looked like they were on sale (the boxes were labelled with prices), so I headed to these containers. I was suddenly excited because they were indeed being sold at a discount. I searched the piles of books for some interesting titles and I was lucky to find some. In the end, I was able to score four items (two books for me, one children’s book, and a comic book).

Here are the books that I got:

Agent Running In The Field by John Le Carre

Agent Running In The Field by John Le Carre

This is a spy novel. I’ve read some novels of John Le Carre in the past, most notably “The Night Manager” and I remember enjoying the stories. Most of John Le Carre’s works were a mix of action and suspense, with some twists here and there because of the predominantly espionage theme.

On The Road by John Kerouac

On The Road by John Kerouac

I’m not familiar with the author but the story looked interesting because of the generally travel and adventure theme. I learned later on that this novel was published way back in 1957 and is based on the author’s travel experiences across the United States.

Billy and the Minpins by Roald Dahl

Who doesn’t know Roald Dahl? I think most people know who this author is. I personally love his stories, but I particularly bought this book for the kids.

The Adventures of Spider Man (Sinister Intentions)

The Adventures of Spider Man (Sinister Intentions)

I bought this comic book for Rafa. He loves Spider Man stories, and I thought that he would love the colorful comic book. I realized though that it seemed to mature for him, the topics I mean, so might as well just reserve this later on when he is a little bigger.

Epilogue

Anyway, I love the feeling of being excited about books. It’s such a pity that there seemed to be fewer people frequenting National Bookstore these days (I don’t know about other bookstores). I like the old feeling of running my fingers on the pages of books, flipping the leaves, the smell of books, and the thrill of reading.
