The 4 Most Important Things To Prioritize In The New Normal

October 12, 2021

As we move to the new normal because of the pandemic, it's important to keep check of the things that we should prioritize and focus on.

The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly made a big impact on our lives. In fact, it has turned our lives upside down, even as we gradually move to the new normal. At some point, we were not at all prepared for all the challenges that it has in store for us. Beyond the trials though, this pandemic also brought a lot of realizations to us. It had us reassessing our priorities and focusing our energies on the aspects of life that are within our control. Above anything else, we began to appreciate simple things that most of us have probably taken for granted in the past.

Priorities in the new normal

The 4 Most Important Things To Prioritize In The New Normal

What is the new normal anyway?

A lot of people may still wonder about what the new normal is. For some, the meaning of the new normal is something apocalyptic but that is not so. The new normal simply means the current state or scenario of the world, past the situations that we are used to.

    The pandemic knows no status

I do understand that we don’t live in an ideal society. Since the lockdown, we’ve often heard of individuals enjoying privileges when it comes to medical care and getting aid. Nonetheless, those are just a few cases. Most people, no matter the status, are feeling the effects of the pandemic.

Take for example host and youth advocate Robi Domingo who has experienced his fair share of challenges this past year. Like everybody else, the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic have greatly affected him and his family.

“It came to a point that I asked myself if I made the right decision not to pursue medicine. When everyone needed a frontliner, why didn’t I become a doctor?” he shared.

Just like the rest of us, the circumstances have presented Robi with insights that he has previously taken for granted. As such, he diverts his attention to pursuits that make him productive and healthy.

Being a celebrity, he recognizes that he can use his voice to create a beneficial impact on the people around him.

Focusing on the positive in the new normal

Looking past all the negativities around us these days is easier said than done. Just the same, we have to take a step towards achieving positivity.

We can begin small and narrow it down to some of the most valuable facets of our lives. It’s not just about surviving the disease but also remaining steadfast against the internal turmoil that happens inside all of us from time to time.

Here are some of the four most important things that we can begin with:

    1. Improve your health and fitness

The best way to prevent catching COVID-19 is to strengthen your immune system. A good physical regimen of regular exercise and a balanced diet will definitely improve your body’s defenses in warding off illnesses.

Aside from that, we should have an ample supply of medicines and multivitamins at home. Of course, good hygiene should be practiced inside as well as outside the house at all times.

Use a good product like Shield+ Alcohol for disinfecting and killing germs on your hands and other exposed areas of your body. If you have sensitive skin, you won’t have to worry because it has vitamin E and collagen to moisturize dry skin caused by constant sanitizing.

According to Robi, his parents are both frontliners that’s why they were also scared of the virus coming to their home. They also practice these healthy habits at home to protect themselves from the virus.

    2. Don’t forget your mental health

Caring for our mental health is especially vital since being cooped up at home can greatly affect our outlook. This can bring stress and anxiety, that’s why it’s important to engage in activities that can help us relax. Reading a book, watching an inspirational show, and even listening to music can help us alleviate all the worries that we are feeling.

When it comes to mental health, Robi’s advice to everyone is: “Let people know you’re there for them, to listen to them, and be proactive in asking how they are doing.” For him, the latter may be key to unlocking powerful stories and, somehow, reducing the baggage they are dealing with.

    3. Hobbies will get us through

We’ve often heard how many people were able to turn their hobbies into profitable ventures during the pandemic.

While not all of us may have the acumen to turn a hobby into a business, that doesn’t mean that hobbies are just a waste of time. Hobbies are important diversions from all the doubts and fears that may be plaguing us.

It can be as simple as cooking, gardening, watching Korean drama series, and so on. As long as it’s not detrimental to your health, just go for it.

For Robi and his family, it was their hobbies that kept them well-balanced during the lockdowns. Just like many Filipinos, his dad turned to plants to stay productive at home.

Robi went back to playing the piano to relax, and learning songs from K-drama shows like Goblin and Crash Landing On that his mom usually requests him to play. He emphasized the importance of finding hobbies to recharge and refresh one’s mind, particularly during stressful times.

    4. Be mindful of the needs of others

Many people have lost their livelihood because of the pandemic. Families who are financially challenged even before the pandemic are thrust into even more dire situations. As such, whenever we can, it’s a good idea to help other people in any way we can.

If you know some neighbors who are going through tough times, give them a little something from time to time to help them survive the day.

Since he is a public personality, Robi is aware of the power of using his platform to spread awareness and encourage others to make good choices, especially with the upcoming elections.

    Epilogue

The pandemic ‘is an eye-opener for many of us. The things that we deemed insignificant before have turned out to be the most important, such as health and our relationship with the people around us.

For a celebrity like Robi, keeping one’s health in check should go beyond protection through constant hand sanitizing. One should also focus on their body, mental well-being, and making a positive impact on the people around them during these challenging times.
