Café Mary Grace: We Went Back To An Old Favorite

August 19, 2018

Café Mary Grace's delicious food and homey ambiance keep us coming back to this restaurant.

Café Mary Grace is one of the few restaurants that we can consider our favorite. We keep coming back to Café Mary Grace because it has consistently maintained its quality of service in all of its branches that we have visited (namely Greenbelt, Ayala Fairview Terraces, and St. Luke’s BGC).

Café Mary Grace: We Went Back To An Old Favorite

A quick lunch date at Cafe Mary Grace

On one occasion, Khris and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice meal at Café Mary Grace in SM Fairview. After months of being busy with Miguel, we figured we could use some time out and go on a quick lunch date.

There was an ongoing weekend sale at SM Fairview so it was a bit chaotic to walk around. The roomy and homey interiors of Café Mary Grace provided a brief respite from the crowd outside.

    The food

There was something new on offer in their menu – or at least it was new to us – and it was called the perfect plate. It was basically a set meal of salad, pasta, and a slice of their dessert of the day. Khris ordered Dory and Saffron Cream Plate while I ordered Chorizo Plate.

The Dory and Saffron Cream Plate came with a dory and saffron cream pasta and a salad of smoked ham with almonds, cranberries, and balsamic vinaigrette.

Meanwhile, the Chorizo Plate is Chorizo and Olives Pasta and a salad of local greens with Chili Daing (marinated milkfish) dressing and Crunchy Garlic. The dessert of the day was tiramisu. We added summer squash soup and vegetables on focaccia sandwich.

Khris and I have a habit of sharing our food with each other so we got to taste what was on each other’s plate. Both our salads were crisp fresh and delicious but I liked the salad from the Dory and Saffron Cream Plate more.

I liked the combination of the vinaigrette, almonds, and slightly sweet cranberries – it was refreshing. The salad from the Chorizo Plate was also good; I liked how Café Mary Grace was able to make a dressing out of daing. However, it could take a bit of getting used to because of the slightly fishy taste. Nonetheless, I still found it delicious.

The Chorizo and Olives pasta is our perennial favorite – a heavy meal on its own. It was very meaty and savory because of the chorizo bits in it. On the other hand, it was our first time to taste the Dory and Saffron Cream Pasta and it left a good impression.

Unlike other cream-based pasta, it was not too heavy. The flavors were unlike any other that we have tasted before; similar to truffle oil but not as savory. It was the saffron, perhaps? In any case, it has the potential to be our favorite.

As if the plates that we ordered were not heavy, we thought of getting another favorite at Café Mary Grace, the Vegetables on Focaccia Sandwich.

It was already a meal on its own. It had grilled zucchini, eggplant, and oyster mushrooms marinated in a delicate balance of balsamic and vinegar oil. The smoky flavors were pleasant to the taste plus it was very fragrant. And because it was vegetable-based, it was a guilt-free indulgence.

    Epilogue

All in all, it was another pleasant experience at Café Mary Grace. The food and the service were still impeccable and the ambiance was first-rate.
