Pico de Loro Beach & Country Club is one of the best destinations to go to if you are looking for a family-friendly leisure club just South of Metro Manila. In fact, it is dubbed as a world-class private beach club that is the closest to the National Capital Region. Pico de Loro is the leisure club property of Hamilo Coast, the premier seaside development of the SM Group in Nasugbu, Batangas.

How To Enjoy Your Overnight Stay at Pico de Loro Beach & Country Club [Travel Guide]

    Our Pico de Loro experience

The plan to go to Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club came about because we wanted to celebrate the promotion of some of Khris' teammates. We chose it for its seemingly tranquil beach, top-of-the-class amenities, and the privacy accorded by its strict admission of guests.

We booked three rooms in the private complex where there are units being rented out. If I remember it correctly, the prices of the rooms that we got were around P5,200 per night. We would have wanted to book a room at Pico Sands Hotel but that would mean that we would go beyond our budget, so that will be for our future trip here.

On the appointed day of our trip, the sky was dark and cloudy. We still pushed through though because we do not have any available weekends plus re-booking can be quite cumbersome.

In the end, we were happy with the decision to push through and spend a weekend at Pico de Loro. Never mind the incessant threat of heavy rain and the long drive, the trip to this beautiful oasis was well worth it.

How to book a unit at Pico de Loro

    Via Agoda

One of the easiest and, at times, most cost-effective ways to book a unit at Pico de Loro is via Agoda, which you can do either through the mobile app or directly through the website link below:

    Via Airbnb

Another easy booking option is via AirBnB, also a reliable booking site:

    1. I would suggest using the Airbnb app so that you can easily book anytime and anywhere as long as you have an internet connection. If you have not yet downloaded the Airbnb app, go to either Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search for “Airbnb.”
    2. Once you have located it, download and install the Airbnb app.
    3. Register and create your profile here to get up to Php2,200 worth of credits.
    4. Once you have created your profile, log on to the app, then go to “Explore.” In the search field, type "Pico de Loro."
    5. A list of available units will appear on the results page. Here, you will see the number of beds, the name of the unit, the price per night, and the rating.
    6. You may click on a unit of your choice to reveal more details such as the rest of the amenities, house rules, location, and detailed reviews, among others. You may also check if the property is available during your planned travel dates.
    7. Once everything is set, you may already proceed with booking at Airbnb. Only credit card payments are accepted by Airbnb, by the way.

How to go to Pico de Loro

We hit the road at 5:00 AM to avoid heavy traffic in EDSA. We plied the whole stretch of EDSA, made a turn to the Coastal Road when we reached SM Mall of Asia then entered CAVITEX.

Traffic in CAVITEX was light. It was a good 40 to 45-minute ride before we entered Antero Soriano Highway. We drove all the way through the main road and passed by Kawit, Bacao Road, Tejero, Tanza, and Naic.

We then entered Governor’s Drive until we reached Ternate. We stayed on the main road and then made a left turn going to Kaybiang Tunnel.

The scenic view was inviting. We gave in and opened our windows to feel the cool mountain air. Add to that the majestic view of the glistening seawater, our trip had all the elements of the perfect weekend journey.

We drove straight ahead through meandering roads until we reached the Hamilo Coast main gate.

    Check-in at Pico de Loro

Since there were a lot of vacationers that weekend, it was not a brisk check-in as we hoped it would be. Lining up at the reception area were mostly big groups of families with children running around.

In addition, the check-in area was not spacious. But despite that, the wait was tolerable because of the cool seaside and mountain air blowing. The personnel was also very accommodating and helpful.

As proof of payment, we were given wristbands. I noticed that these were color-coded, probably depending on whether the guests were owners or were renting overnight just like us.

We were also handed our reloadable guest cash cards. We were told that inside the property, one may pay using either this cash card or via credit card.

    Pico de Loro accommodation

We booked an overnight stay at Carola II. We rented a one-bedroom unit and a two-bedroom residence where Khris and I stayed.

Upon entering the unit's main door, you will be greeted by the bathroom to the right and then the kitchen. There was also a refrigerator, gas stove, and 21-inch flat-screen TV with a CIGNAL connection.

From the living room, one may access the porch via a floor-to-ceiling soundproof sliding door. There was a big table in the area for outside dining or just about any other gathering.

Since the use of the kitchen was included in the package, we brought fresh and processed meat, fish, and vegetables with us and cooked our meals.

Upstairs, there were two bedrooms and another bathroom. The master bedroom was fully air-conditioned and also had a 21-inch flat-screen TV.

From the master’s bedroom, one can easily access the veranda for a panoramic view of the saltwater lake in the middle of the property.

Top things to do in Pico de Loro

Since we only had an overnight booking at Pico de Loro, we wanted to make good use of our limited time in this resort.

Here are some of the top things that you can do to maximize your stay at Pico de Loro:

    1. Swim at Pico Beach

At the top of our itinerary was to take a dip at Pico Beach. From Carola II, we hailed a passenger cart that dropped us off at the beach.

Unfortunately, the waves were pounding ferociously because of the strong wind which made swimming almost impossible.

Guests were frolicking in the water but we thought it was too risky. In fact, the red flag warning was up which meant that the beach hazard was high.

Disappointed, we gave up on our plan and headed instead to the country club. On an ideal day though, the beach looked like it was perfect for a leisurely dip.

    2. Visit the country club

At the country club, you will never run out of things to do. Some of our companions were already enjoying a basketball game when we went there.

We explored the sports center and saw that there were also volleyball and badminton courts. Guests may also opt to play billiards, video games, or bowling for mildly intensive physical activities. Non-club members have to pay a fee though to use the facilities.

Of course, there were swimming pools, too – from ankle-deep kiddie pools to adult pools. One thing I noticed though was that the pools were not heated but this is just a minor issue. We completely enjoyed our time wading and bathing in the swimming pools.

    3. Other activities

Pico de Loro also offers water activities such as banana boat rides, jet-skiing, and kayaking.

While you are here at Pico de Loro, you may also want to take advantage of the opportunity to commune with nature by exploring the property either by foot or by bike.

    Dining at Pico de Loro

It seems like getting hungry is never an option in Pico de Loro with the number of restaurants that guests may choose from, which are Sun Coral Café, Reef Bar, Brisa Bar, Lagoa, B&B, Pico Restaurant and Bar, and Grab N Go.

No need to worry about how to find finding these restaurants as these are located either at the country club or beach club only.

We checked out at exactly 1:00 PM on the next day. Check-out was a lot faster; in just a few minutes, we were already on the road back to Manila.

    Tips:
    1. Discounted overnight rates at Pico de Loro are available via numerous online shops.
    2. Bring a credit card. Pico de Loro only accepts payment via the reloadable cash cards that they provide guests or through credit cards.
    3. Bring your SM advantage card. It is accepted at the reception area when you settle your bill since Hamilo Coast is a property of SM Development Corporation.
    4. For non-club members, be ready to pay fees for the use of facilities, including towels.
    5. Bring food to save on the coast. You may use the kitchen and stove to cook food.
