Office Lunch Series: Marugame Udon in Bonifacio High Street

Some months back, a few of my teammates asked if I wanted to join them for lunch and I readily said yes. I always bring with me packed lunch but during that time, I didn’t have food. Plus, they were always having lunch at Marugame Udon so might as well try it.

Marugame Udon’s menu is composed of, well, Udon (obviously), rice bowls, side dishes, and omusubi. There were 16 choices of udon (Beef Ontama Bukkake, Chicken Paitan, Curry, Beef, Kimchi, etc.), while choices for the rice bowls were 11 (Teriyaki Chicken Don, Beek Yakiniku, Katsudon, Katsu Curry Rice, etc.). You can also order side dishes (11 choices composed of pork tonkatsu, ebiten, sweet potato tempura, etc.) and omusubi (8 choices composed of spam omosubi, tuna omosubi, inari sushi, salmon flakes omosubi, etc.).

During my first time to eat at Marugame Udon, I tried the Beef Ontama Bukkake Udon. Why did I choose this one? First off, I wasn’t familiar with the food at Marugame so it felt like it was the safest choice. While it wasn’t the cheapest food in Marugame’s menu, it also wasn’t the most expensive.

If I didn’t like it, then that’s fine. I didn’t have to regret the choice too much. I found it delicious and I liked the fact that it was cold. I like cold food because I find them to be more flavorful. The beef was tender, the noodles were firm, and the soup (or sauce) was flavorful. However, if I would be made to choose between udon and ramen, I would readily choose ramen. Just the same, udon is good. It somehow reminds me tsukemen.

On a different occasion, I tried Marugame’s Katsu Curry Rice. I was craving something rich and filling so I ordered this one and it didn’t disappoint. The flavors were satisfying, as well as the cut of meat. I like the tender katsu coated in a batter with just the right thickness. I found the Katsu Curry Rice to be superb.

All in all, my dining experience at Marugame Udon has always been a pleasant one. It was always good to try something new from time to time.
