Our Memorable Breakfast Date Experience at Balay Dako Tagaytay [Menu + Reviews]

June 12, 2025

If you are looking for an enjoyable breakfast buffet in experience in Tagaytay with a good view of Taal Lake, then you might want to try Balay Dako.

Balay Dako has caused quite a stir in the last few months, and we all know that it was not in a positive way. In fact, there were numerous calls for people to boycott the restaurant. I know these days that being in the social media spotlight could make or break a business, especially if there are a lot of creators (or wannabees) trying to ride the issue and milk it dry for their own benefit.

In the end, all issues aside, it’s really up to us to decide whether to support a business or not. If that business’s values do not align with ours, we can choose to ignore it and support another enterprise. Just the same, if we choose to support a business, it doesn’t necessarily follow that we have the same set of values.

That being said, we have wanted to try eating at Balay Dako for a long time. We’ve heard many good reviews about it, and we wanted to experience it as well. The opportunity to try the food at Balay Dako came during our recent trip to Tagaytay. Furthermore, we were also celebrating our 11th wedding anniversary, so we wanted to try something new and eat something special.

We arrived early at Balay Dako because we heard that lines could get really long in the morning. Indeed, when we got there, there was already a long queue at the lobby. We didn’t have to wait long, though, because we were let in immediately after the first batch of customers.

The buffet area is the same set-up as other buffet restaurants in that it was divided into several stations. I’m not sure if the menu for the breakfast buffet changes but the offering seems pretty standard. For the regular menu though, it was mostly Filipino food.

For the main course, steamed rice and fried rice were served; there was also adobo, corned beef, danggit, dried fish, tapa, and bacon. There’s also a fruit and salad station, bread and pastries station, native cakes, cereal and milk, omelet station, taho, corned beef, carving station, coffee and drinks station, condiments, and Filipino desserts. Ang isa palas a nagustuhan ko sa Balay Dako was that they had balut and penoy for breakfast.

I helped myself to the usual Pinoy breakfast of garlic rice, danggit, corned beef, and bacon. I also tried balut and penoy, taho, native sweets, and coffee. It was a filling breakfast, and truly enjoyable because of the chilly Tagaytay air. I wouldn’t consider the food phenomenal; yes, it was delicious, but I guess you already know that it’s the same as other good quality restaurants. However, we came to Balay Dako for the experience, and I would say that we had a good time. And that was because we were also celebrating a special occasion.

We took a few pictures, enjoyed the view of Taal Lake, and left after close to two hours. All in all, again, we had a wonderful breakfast date at Balay Dako.
