Hotel staycations are a great alternative to traveling. It’s like having a quick getaway without having to travel far. In fact, before the COVID-19 pandemic, my family loves to go on hotel staycations to relax and enjoy good food.
Wordless Wednesday: The Creepy Side Of Hotel Staycations
Anyway, if you also love hotel staycations, I’m sure you’ve experienced staying in an old hotel. I do love the aesthetics and classic elements of old hotels. However, I sometimes couldn’t help but feel a little scared of old hotels.
Take for example the photo above which was taken in EDSA Shangri-La hotel during one of our staycations some years ago. I couldn’t help but remark how eerie-looking that aisle looked. Blame it on my imagination and my love of Stephen King’s “The Shining” (both the film and the book).
Speaking of The Shining, are you familiar with its story?
For the younger ones who do not know the story of The Shining, it’s the tale of a family that got the job of looking after the Overlook Hotel that was closed for the winter.
Everything seemed fine at first but as the story progresses, Jack (the father) begins to lose his mind in what appears to be a case of cabin fever. Or is it something more than that? Could the apparitions they’re seeing indeed be the supernatural residents of the hotel?
Whatever it was, the family got enveloped in dark energy causing Jack to attempt to murder his wife and son. He doesn’t succeed though and eventually froze to death in the midst of a topiary after being unsuccessful in chasing his family.
Scary, isn’t it?
That’s why when I’m in an old hotel such as the EDSA Shangri-La, I couldn’t help but think about the scenes inside the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. The corridor pictured above has the same vibe and feel as the Overlook Hotel. Nevertheless, I know that it’s just my imagination going overdrive.

I totally relate to this. I have stayed in my share of hotels that made me feel like I might be murdered in the night. LOL
Oh yikes, I would be a bit scared. But I do love old hotels since they have character but most likely they will be haunted.
I love old hotels! We have a few here that are supposed to be haunted.
We did stay at a really cheap hotel near an airport and there were some pretty gross stains. We now call it "murder hotel" and won't be returning!
I completely agree that hotel hallway gives off definite 'The Shining' vibes. So eerie!
LOL, nope not for me. I don't even like looking outside when it gets too dark. Ha!
I'm not a fan of old hotels like that, either. They kind of creep me out. I stayed at a hotel by myself for the first time last month but it was a new, modern, well-kept hotel so I felt very comfortable there.
I really don’t like the feeling of staying at a old hotel. I always watching Horror moviesand when I see a old hotel I can remember some scenarios in my mind lol
This was interesting. I haven't really felt uneasiness since I haven't stayed in old hotels. And I have no plans to lol
Not sure I could handle a creepy hallway in a hotel. I screen them before booking!!!
I've never really stayed in an old hotel before. I don't know if I could do it honestly. I'm not sure how I'd feel about it either.
I didnt get any eerie vibes from this hotel. I've stayed at hotels that did though.

I personally love it! The possibility of being in a haunted hotel both freaks me out and excites me! My husband and I are hoping to go and stay in some haunted locations this fall, and I'm buzzing!

Yes... it does look creepy and I would be terrified to sleep there ;) but fun at the same time....
I love that movie. Scary. I'm happy to say that I've not stayed in a place that was creepy. I'm happy about that.

I totally feel you on this kind of situation. The hallway above looks definitely creepy as it like a infinite corridor that you can't get out. This gives me goosebumps!
We stayed at an old hotel when a winter storm came through during our travels. It was pretty much abandoned, and they put us in a room so far away from the office. It was weird to walkt he empty, dark hallways to get to our room. Definitely that night, but even the next morrning when we walked up to get breakfast.
Well now I am super freaked out hahaha!
If I'm actually spending time in the room, I like to choose a place that is light and bright. Airiness helps me work better!

I love staycation, maybe visiting a countryside or a little town in our region I love to stay in hotels without the stress to return home.
