Crazy Katsu's Menu + Branches [A Must-Try Restaurant In Maginhawa Street]

Crazy Katsu is a popular restaurant that offers big servings of delicious katsu meals. It is one of the restaurants that we have been wanting to go to for so long but could not have the time to visit because our office was in Makati.

As such, when we finally had the time (and the resolve to brave the traffic) to go to Crazy Katsu in Maginhawa Street, we were all excited despite the long drive.

Our Experience at Crazy Katsu

When I was still residing in UP, I always see Crazy Katsu, a small restaurant, whenever I pass by Maginhawa Street in the morning. It was actually a friend who was been incessantly asking us that we try Crazy Katsu.

Crazy Katsu is one of the first few restaurants located along Maginhawa Street in Teachers' Village, Diliman. The place is unassuming, quite small although outside seats are available. During peak hours, which is around 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, diners might have to wait a bit long in order to get their seats.

So what draws diners to Crazy Katsu? Well, the restaurant offers crazy big cuts of meat that is perfectly seasoned, breaded, and fried. Their serving of rice is likewise more than adequate to fill even a famished tummy.

Food and Flavor

After a fair amount of waiting for a vacant table and when we were finally settled in our seats, we ordered pork tonkatsu and chicken katsu. Service was quick because our orders were delivered after a reasonable amount of waiting time. All of our orders were served with rice, side salad, and miso soup.

Crazy Katsu’s tonkatsu is so far the best I have tried. It was very flavorful and crunchy; it was so unlike other similar fares I have tried before that lacked flavor. I tried the spicy variety, which is generously sprinkled with chopped red chilies. You have the option to crush the chilies and mix it with the sauce or eat it straight together with chunks of the meat.

This tonkatsu is best eaten with tangy and creamy Japanese mayonnaise as sauce. I was expecting the mayo to be too rich but it surprisingly went well with the meat. It’s hard to resist another cup of rice with this tonkatsu.

Meanwhile, the chicken katsu is another dish that is perfect for those who have huge appetites. The serving is really big. It also came with side salad and a cup of rice. I got a bite of this chicken katsu and it was also good.

Verdict

All in all, we definitely enjoyed our little trip to Crazy Katsu. The food was delicious and filling plus it was really affordable. It was well worth the long drive from BGC to Maginhawa Street on a weeknight. Crazy Katsu is definitely recommended for those who want a flavorful meal but are tight on budget.
