Bohol’s much-awaited Sandugo Festival 2018 is happening this coming July.
In a recent press briefing led by Lucas Nunag, chair of the Bohol provincial tourism council, and Bohol Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio II, local officials have laid out the planned activities for the month-long festival. The tourism and government officials also said that, since this is the 30th edition of this festival, activities are set to be bigger, grander, and more colorful than previous events.
Among the said activities are the Mass and commemorative program on July 1, a trade fair that will open on July 9, an Agricultural fair from July 17-18, a Flower and Garden Show on July 19, a Song Festival on July 20 where compositions of local musicians will be recognized, the anticipated Ms. Bohol 2018 Pageant Night on July 21 to recognize local beauties, and the exciting and colorful Kuradang Street Dancing on July 28.
According to provincial administrator Alfonso Damalerio II, Bohol’s local government is also plans to arrange a street party at night in order for travelers and event participants to have a feel of Boholano hospitality.
In addition to the festivities mentioned above, Bohol will also recognize the 10 outstanding Boholanos around the world on July 22, Bohol Day.
Furthermore, the Sandugo Festival 2018 also happens alongside the Tigum Bol-Anon Tibuak Kalibutan, a get-together of Boholanos all over the globe and is organized every 3 years.
The Sandugo Festival is an annual celebration in the province of Bohol to commemorate the blood compact between the old Bohol Chieftain Datu Sikatuna and Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi. The blood compact is also known as Bohol Sandugo and symbolizes the treaty of camaraderie between two races.
Apart from the Sandugo Festival, Bohol is most notably known for its pristine beaches and the iconic Chocolate Hills, a formation of more than a thousand hills made of eroded limestones. Bohol is also home to a number of stunning Spanish-era heritage churches; recently-restored and opened to the public after being damaged by the Bohol earthquake in 2013.
