A Day Out with the Kids in BGC

I’ve always wanted to take my children to Bonifacio Global City (BGC) since I consider it one of the most kid-friendly places in Metro Manila. However, since we live all the way in Novaliches, the prospect of driving to BGC through the weekend traffic is not at all that attractive. Just the same, a great opportunity to take the kids to BGC came last December when we met Mommy Khris’ college friends for their annual Christmas get-together.

A Day Out with the Kids in BGC

If you are like us who live far from BGC, I think one of your immediate concerns would be about parking if you are bringing your family car with you. Don’t worry though because there are a lot of paid parking areas in BGC. Depending on where you are going in BGC, you can opt to park in One Parkade, Two, Three Parkade, Fort Victoria Paid Parking, 3rd Avenue Parking, Gallery Parkade, One Bonifacio High Street, SM Aura Mall, Uptown Mal, High Street Parking, and so on.

We parked in One Bonifacio High Street because our lunch venue was Lore Manila, a Filipino restaurant by Chef Tatung. Our friends were already eating when we got to the restaurant (they ordered baby squid with garlic in olive oil, I think it was turmeric fried rice, and beef lengua). There was enough food for everyone, but we ordered additional fried chicken, pork adobo, and rice for the kids. The food was delicious, my personal favorite was the baby squid with garlic in olive oil. Lore Manila restaurant was roomy, so the kids had a lot of space to run around without disturbing other diners.

After lunch, our friends wanted to continue the conversation over coffee. At that point, I took the opportunity to walk in High Bonifacio High Street Park. Outside, we saw that 5th Avenue was closed to vehicular traffic so it was busy with activities – children playing and their parents enjoying the big space of the nearby park and the wide open area of 5th Avenue. There was a Coke truck when we went there; it was playing music and it had a contest or game where participants could win bottles of Coke.

I took the kids walking to High Street Park but after about 20 minutes of running and playing, Rafa was already looking for his Mommy so we went back to One Bonifacio High Street.

Mommy Khris and her friends were having coffee at Because Coffee by Harlan + Holden, where it was a little busy inside. What’s unique about Because Coffee is that it’s cashless and you can order in advance. I did try its Sea Salt Latte and it was delicious; I think it was my first time tasting coffee with a hint of saltiness.

By early evening, we said our goodbyes because we didn’t want to drive too late at night. In the end, it was a day well spent and we were grateful for the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful spots in BGC with our children.
