Getting Used To A New Morning Routine

May 02, 2022

With Mommy Khris' return to the office, the kids and I had to make some adjustments with our morning routine.

When Mommy Khris was asked to report back to the office last month, my biggest concern was Rafa waking up and finding out that his Mommy wasn’t in bed beside him. I was very sure that he would cry nonstop and then also wake up his Kuya Miguel in the process. Honestly, both of our boys woke up easily, that’s why we exhausted all effort just to make sure that we were as soundless as possible when Mommy Khris prepared to go to work each morning.

Getting Used To A New Morning Routine

One time though, Rafa woke up just as his Mommy closed the bedroom door. I was bracing myself for one big and (almost) endless crying feat from my youngest son. To my surprise though, he didn’t make a fuss. He just said “Mommy” but quickly crawled to my side of the bed and fell asleep on my pillow.

I thought that it was a one-off scenario, however, that became our routine before daybreak just as Mommy Khris left for work. There are times when I’d just move to Mommy Khris’ side of the bed so that Rafa’s sleep would not be interrupted anymore.

Most mornings though, we’d be trying to fit together in a small space. Imagine the three of us – Miguel, Rafa, and I – all sleeping together on the narrow side of our bed. I’m not complaining though because I do treasure these moments when the three of us are huddled together a few hours before we begin another busy day.

When the kids woke up though, they head straight to the garden for their usual morning playtime. Again, I’m just thankful that Rafa has already adjusted quite well to his Mommy being away during the day.

I’m just a little concerned about Kuya Miguel because he’s been waking up earlier than normal recently. As a result, he’d be sleepy or cranky by the time we did our home activities or during his sessions every Friday afternoon. I hope he gets to adjust soon and sleep a little longer.

In any case, we’re thankful for the P2P buses because Mommy Khris is able to get home early. She gets to see the kids and bond with them a bit before they went to bed.

In the end, though, we’re still hoping that we could get a work-from-home job. We’ve been together at home for the last two years so breaking that routine is proving to be quite a challenge especially since the kids are still small.

For now, we’d just have to live with our new routine.

How about you, are you already reporting back to the office? I’m sure you feel the same way if you have small children. Feel free to share your story in the comment section below.

  1. Thankfully, I've been working from home for quite some time and the nest has been empty for years now as well, so no kiddie schedules to work around- I do and don't miss it all at once, most of the time it feels like you blink and they're all grown and gone and bringing grandkids by for the holidays. Cherish it!
