Banh Mi Kitchen’s Delightful Vietnamese Sandwiches

Our experience at Banh Mi Kitchen

After being stuck at home for so long, Khris and I decided to venture to SM Fairview on one Sunday afternoon. It was here where we chanced upon Banh Mi Kitchen. We both love banh mi, so the invitation to eat here was hard to resist. It was also way past lunchtime; hence it was the perfect opportunity to have a bite.

Safety first

Banh Mi Kitchen’s SM Fairview outlet is small. It had an order counter and about five small tables, the type that is only good for two people. I figured they don’t need a big space because sandwiches are meant to be eaten fast, at times it is also mostly ordered to go.

Since health and safety protocols are still in effect, the tables are spaced apart and only one person is allowed to occupy it. As such, Khris and I ate at different tables. There are also the usual plastic sheets separating the tables and covering the order counter. I guess we really have to live with this type of set up.

The food

We ordered the classic banh mi which had Vietnamese ham, roast pork, pate, crisp cucumber, pickled radish, carrots, my favorite coriander, and mayo hoisin sauce in a toasted French baguette. The full sandwich costs P169 while the junior sandwich is priced at P99. We ordered the full sandwich, of course.

From among the BMKN Creations, we ordered Wagyu Tapa. It was made with tender wagyu tapa, fluffy omelet, pate, mayo, fresh cucumber, pickled radish, carrots, and coriander. The full sandwich is P199 and the junior sandwich is P139. Again, the full sandwich for us.

For drinks, I wanted to try the BMKN Viet Iced Coffee (P199 for 22 oz.).

Our food arrived quite fast at around 10 minutes. The slightly toasted bread was fragrant! We had the sandwiches sliced in half so that Khris and I could taste each one.

I took a bite of my classic sandwich and was immediately in love with the banh mi flavors that I love. What I like about banh mi is that it is loaded with generous servings of both meat and vegetables. It was a good balance of flavors; the rich meaty taste being tempered with the fresh taste of the vegetables.

Taking a bite

I really like the addition of coriander in banh mi (as well as in other dishes, to tell you the truth). Coriander has a delightfully clean and fresh taste that works well in salads and sandwiches (and even in pasta, for me).

Khris and I also exchanged half of our sandwiches with each other so that we can taste both of our orders. The wagyu tapa banh mi is also something that I will recommend. The wagyu beef is indeed tender, juicy, and flavorful. There was generous wagyu tapa in each bite so the price was totally worth it. It was like a breakfast sandwich with the addition of the omelet. Again, fresh vegetables were aplenty.

As for my coffee, I liked its strong taste which was both a little bitter and slightly sweet from the cream. Being a coffee lover, I think this Vietnamese coffee is perfect for pairing with the savory banh mi sandwiches.

Our verdict

We definitely enjoyed our quick meal at Banh Mi Kitchen. Finally, there is a nearby outlet where we can easily order our favorite banh mi sandwiches. The price maybe a little high for some people but, for us, it was totally worth it. The meats were of good quality, the flavors were on point, and the servings were big.

The bread had some crunch to it because it was a little toasted. It smelled heavenly after it was warmed.
