Wordless Wednesday: Sunset In Puerto Galera

September 28, 2022

Puerto Galera probably has one of the best sunsets in the Philippines (and the world).

When talking about the most stunning sunsets in the Philippines, the locations that easily come to mind are Boracay, Manila Bay, and Bohol. Indeed, there’s no denying that these places boast a breathtaking view of the shifting colors of the skyline as the sun makes its descent over the horizon. However, one such place in the Philippines that one would not expect to afford a magnificent view of the sunset is Puerto Galera.

Wordless Wednesday: Sunset In Puerto Galera

In fact, it was just an accidental discovery, at least for me and my friends when we went to Puerto Galera almost a decade ago. We had just finished our day-long itinerary, checking some of the most beautiful spots that the island has to offer.

We’ve been to Tamaraw Falls, to souvenir shops, and we even did some terrain activities until we finally decided to take it slow and spend the remainder of the afternoon in White Beach. We chose a spot away from the bars and party places and just took advantage of the peace and quiet to enjoy the sand and the sound of the waves.

When it was already late in the afternoon, we were mesmerized by the sudden red-orange hue painted across the skyline. We suddenly realized by then that the sun was setting soon so we thought of staying longer in White Beach to wait for the sunset. After all, we were in an ideal spot for sunset watching because of the unobstructed view in front of us.

As it grew darker, the colors of the horizon became even more intense. It was then that we realized that we were witnessing one of the best sunsets in the Philippines (and maybe even in the world). What was quite amusing about it was that Puerto Galera wasn’t really famous for its sunset. I guess that’s because travelers who flock to Puerto Galera are more often interested in the island’s vibrant party scene.

Nevertheless, if people would ask me about the activities in Puerto Galera that I’d recommend, I’d definitely include sunset watching in my list.
