Palawan and Cebu were recently included in Travel + Leisure Magazine’s 15 Best Islands in the World. Palawan, with a score of 90.04, occupied the sixth position this year, sliding by five notches from its position last year. Palawan held the top spot in the World’s Best Islands list in 2013 and in 2017. Cebu, meanwhile, is at number eight with a score of 89.10.
Both Palawan and Cebu are among the most popular destinations in the country, both among local and foreign travelers. The two island provinces boast of stunning beaches, breathtaking natural wonders, and bustling city life, hence, catering to broad types of adventure-seekers.
With this latest development, the Philippines further solidifies its status as a favorite world-class destination among international travelers.

Four other Asian destinations are included in the list, notably clinching the top four places. Occupying the top three spots are all Indonesian islands – Java (top spot with a score of 95.28), Bali (second spot with a score of 94.06), and Lombok (third place with a score of 93.88). At number four is the island country of Maldives (total score of 90.48), which boasts crystal clear, cerulean waters, and seemingly endless shores of white sand.
The other islands – all equally striking – that made it to the list are Waiheke, New Zealand (score of 90.21), Mauritius (score of 90.00), Páros, Greece (score of 88.76), Tasmania, Australia (score of 88.70), Galápagos Islands, Ecuador (score of 88.53), Cook Islands (score of 88.52), Orkney Islands, Scotland (score of 88.50), Maui, Hawaii (score of 88.42), and Azores, Portugal (score of 88.37).
In order to come up with the World’s Best Islands list, Travel + Leisure Magazine conducts a survey among its readers in which they were asked about their travel experiences around the world. Their opinions were taken on the best cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, and airlines, to name a few. Travel + Leisure Magazine also asked travelers to evaluate islands according to their activities and sights, natural attractions and beaches, food, friendliness, and overall value.
