Here is a list of fun yet affordable Christmas activities that you can do with your family.
The pandemic has changed the way we celebrate our special occasions, such as
Christmas. Many of us were not used to celebrating Christmas while cooped up
at home but that doesn’t mean that we will have to forgo the fun and holiday
cheer. I’m sure you also want your kids to enjoy the warmth and excitement of
celebrating Christmas.
7 Fun and Affordable Christmas Activities To Do With Your Family
Making health and safety the priority while celebrating
what’s important to remember when celebrating with your family this Yuletide
season is to put health and safety as the top priority.
As such, follow all
protocols whether you are celebrating at home or if you choose to go out with
your family. If you are bringing your kids outdoors, know the risks but also
exhaust all efforts to protect them from getting sick or hurt.
Exciting things that you can do with your family this Christmas
While the year 2020 caught us unaware, what’s good about the succeeding years
is that we were able to make adjustments and adapt to the new normal. I
understand that many of us may have been affected financially by the pandemic
so these are all budget-friendly activities.
Here are some of the things that you can do with your family this Christmas:
1. Hold a virtual Christmas party
Thanks to new technology, it’s now easier to see our loved ones and hold
virtual get-togethers. Zoom is feature-rich but it requires paid subscription
to enjoy all the bells and whistles that come with it. A good option would be
Viber, Facebook Messenger, Google Meet, and MS Teams.
You can have trivia games, group production numbers, karaoke contests,
kwentuhan with drinks, and so on at the comfort and safety of your home.
The options are quite endless plus you are spared the hassle of having to
prepare food, home decorations, gifts, and drinks. You can even have a virtual
exchange gifts and just send out the parcels through your favorite courier.
2. Check out the attractions at the SM Supermalls
A trip to the mall is a luxury these days. We used to equate going to the mall
with the holiday rush and elevated stress levels, without even bothering to
stop for a while and appreciate the bright Christmas decors that adorn the
interiors of the malls.
We didn’t realize that there would come a day when we’d be wanting to
experience those small things again. Fortunately, SM Supermalls all over the
country still continue the tradition of putting up spectacular Christmas
lights and decors inside their shopping centers.
For example, shoppers in Quezon City will be treated to glittering silver and
gold lights as well as magnificent greens – a truly enchanting sight to behold
in SM City North Edsa.
Here are some of the other magical surprises that await visitors at SM City
North Edsa:
Enchanted Christmas Tree
It’s a grand 45-feet tall Christmas tree, decorated
by elegant botanical species.
The Block Atrium looks every bit like an Enchanted Garden, overlooked by a
large Victorian greenhouse and offers a freshly Instagrammable walk-through
experience for families to enjoy. You can capture the experience with FREE
Instax prints & 4R prints from FUJIFILM.
SM Malls Online Exclusives
You can shop anywhere and enjoy a 15% OFF in-app
exclusive at SM Malls Online. You choose from any of your favorite brands and enjoy this deal when you order
exclusively from SM City North Edsa.
Gift Market
Shopping for gift items is made easy with SM City North Edsa’s
Gift Market, featuring gift bundles, family feast favorites and Christmas
holideals that will surely bring cheer to every Filipino home.
SM Bears Of Joy
This is an annual holiday collectible that has become a
tradition at SM City North Edsa as well as in other SM Supermalls. Shoppers
may collect all four bear characters: Cookie (Baker), Cammy (Vlogger), Speedy
(Cyclist), and Sunny (Plant Lover).
You’ll get a pair for only P250, one bear for you to keep and the other for
this year’s partner charity: CHILDHAUS QC.
Meanwhile, in the neighboring SM City Sta. Mesa, the Dutch-inspired Christmas
Centerpiece dubbed “Merry Holiday Land” is on display for shoppers to enjoy.
It was opened to the public last October 28, 2021 amid special ceremonies
attended by Honorable Congressman Atty. Jesus Manuel “Bong” Suntay, Honorable
Councilor Hero Bautista of the 4th District of Quezon City, and Police
Lieutenant Colonel Von June Nuyda of PS11 QCPD.
You can check your local SM Supermall for their special Christmas activities
and special holiday displays. It's also the perfect time to shop for gifts either at SM Department Store or SM Cyberzone. Again, practice health and safety protocols when
you do go out.
Personally, I still wouldn’t take my kids out because they
don’t like to wear face masks. In the end, your decision is fine as long as
you are well-informed of the risks and precautions.

3. Attend local Christmas festivals
You can attend Christmas festivals within your own locality. If you have not
yet done this in the past, maybe this is the perfect time to reconnect with
your roots. A perfect example would be the Giant Lantern Festival in San
Fernando, Pampanga.
What’s good about these local festivals is that you may not even have to get
out of your family car if you are bringing one. You and your kids can watch
the festivities from the comfort and safety of your car.
4. Watch Ayala Triangle’s light and sound show
For those living in Metro Manila, one of the most awaited events during the
Christmas season is the light and sound show in Ayala Triangle Gardens.
However, because of the pandemic, it has now transitioned to the digital space
so you can conveniently watch it, as well as the light and sound shows in
other Ayala Land Developments, wherever you are around the country.
5. Visit your local park
A good way to bond with your kids this Christmas season is to visit your local park. They can enjoy a dose of the outdoors, breathe fresh air, and even marvel at Christmas lights and decors if these are on display.
You can even bring your bikes or scooters for a quick exercise with your children.
6. Go on a Christmas movie marathon
There are a lot of good old Christmas movies as well as animated classics on Netflix. Some movies that you might wat to consider are The Nightmare Before Christmas, Home Alone, The Grinch, Elf, Miracle on 34th Street, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, The Muppet Christmas Carol, just to name a few.
7. Read Christmas stories
Reinforce the joy of reading to your children by having Christmas story sessions with them. It’s also a good way to wean them off from their gadgets even if it’s just temporarily. There are wonderful books that you can buy in Lazada and Shopee or even eBooks that you can purchase from Amazon.
Books are also a good investment because you and your children can read these over and over again whenever you feel like you need an escape from social media and the digital world, in general.
Epilogue
These are some of the fun and affordable activities that you can do with your family this holiday season. Just remember that if you are taking your kids out, strictly practice health and safety protocols so as not to compromise their well-being.
